The Road to Baja Page 9

We have decided to continue our journey.  We said adiós to San Felipe and pointed the truck South.

Janet had hoped to go for a flight in Rafael's ultralight, out of Pete's Camp.  As luck would have it however, as soon as we were given his phone number so we could make arrangements, the winds kicked up and made flying in that rig somewhere between unlikely and impossible.

The road passes by a number of campos that dot the Sea of Cortez coastline.  We did take a quick look around Puertecietos and Bahia de Gonzaga on our way through.  These are larger communities close to the highway.

The road is now paved 14 miles past Gonzaga Bay and for 137 miles after that, wear your kidney belt.  One rough piece of dirt and rocks or more appropriately rocks and rocks and dirt with rocks.

Coco's Corner is about 14 miles from where the dirt road meets Highway 1, the "Trans-peninsular highway" that runs from Tijuana to Los Cabos.  We're now about 1/2 way down.  We made a short stop here too.  Coco is currently in Ensenada but a friend is taking care of his place.

We stay on this road for 20-30 miles until the turn off for Bahia de Los Angeles, our destination for the night.  40 or so miles of winding through the cactus forest and we again see the water in the form of a beautiful bay, dotted with islands just off shore.

After arranging for the nights accommodations, we secure a much needed cerveza and find a place for dinner.

Tomorrow we'll head to Guerrero Negro with possibly a couple of sight seeing stops along the way.
