The Road to Baja
In the tradition of the famous “The
Road to” movies of Bob Hope, Bing Crosby and Dorothy Lamour
(1940-1946), Janet and I are setting out on an
adventure throughout Baja California, Mexico. Admittedly without the
frequent singing interludes and the second male character (Bing?).
February 6th,
2015 we depart for points south. We'll be spending a few days
meandering toward the Mexican border, visiting a couple of friends
and relatives along the way. Once we finally cross into Baja, our
adventure will officially begin in San Felipe, just in time for
Valentines and Mardi Gras.
We have been to San Felipe before and
found it a cool little town with tons of unrealized potential. That
is, unless one of the many Baja off road races is running through
town. Then, we understand, that the town becomes a partying mecca.
Mardi Gras seems to be a big affair too. A little tough to find
accommodations during that period of time. It'll be interesting to
see the celebrations.
San Felipe is the only place in Baja
that we have prearranged accommodations. We have no firm plans once
we leave, as far as where we will end up or how long we will stay. I
have visited many of the major towns along with a few of small places
in Baja before, while exploring on motorcycle trips. We plan on
visiting those places along with wherever else we can reasonably get
to.
Baja is dotted with thousands of small
communities. Most of them at the end of a dirt-sand-rock path. If we
can get there, we'll probably be able to find a cold beer and a taco
and possibly a place to stay.
The blog will be updated periodically
as we progress on our way. Who knows what sort of places we will discover and what sort of adventures await us? Stay tuned...
